The performance The Chinese Room premiered in 2010. The point of departure is the question of what is the next step in human evolution. Will the human race finally merge with machines and with each other, permanently linking us together in a universal organism? Together with dancer Külli Roosna, light designer Thomas Dotzler and multimedia artist Matsuo Kunihiko, Kenneth explores the new Humanity 2.0. Can we remain human in a networked reality where technology, biology, mind and power have all become one?

Choreography, music, dance Kenneth Flak | Dance Külli Roosna | Light Design Thomas Dotzler | Multimedia Design Matsuo Kunihiko | Dramaturgical Advice Thomas Falk | Supported by The Norwegian Arts Council, Norwegian Fund for Sound and Image, Moderna Dansteatern/SITE, University of Dance and Circus, Stockholm / Special thanks to: Kulczyk Foundation, Poznan and Dansalliansen, Stockholm

collaboration with choreographer <a href="http://blog.kennethflak.com/">Kenneth Flak</a> and light designer Thomas Dotzler

What's the next stage in the evolution of humanity? Will we finally merge with the machines and with each other, creating the New Human, Humanity 2.0, permanently wired into the universal Mind of Mankind, finally dissolved, finally rid of individual existence...

In The Chinese Room Kenneth Flak hurls himself and his collaborators Külli Roosna, Thomas Dotzler, Matsuo Kunihiko and Thomas Falk into an investigation of what it is to be human in a networked reality, searching for links between the technologies of power, the technologies of the mind and the technologies of information. How do these technologies shape the body? How does the body shape these technologies? Where is the mind in all of this? Will we still be human if we merge with the machines? Or are we already machines--free at least from the messy business of the flesh?

<strong>Hemabharathy Palani</strong> ,India
Jan 30th, 7.30 PM (a part of Mixed Bill -an evening of six eclectic performances) Rangashankara

Hemabharathy Palani -- winner of the Robert Bosch Young Choreographer's Award 2009 -- has evolved a unique movement style by blending the distilled vocabularies of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi with the freedom of contemporary dance. Hemabharathy uses the Indian mythological story of Ambe as a starting point for Uruvam. Though versions of the story differ in their facts, the central theme of anguish and the giving up of one's body and sexual identity in order to access a greater range of rights and actions remains. The stories underline the sense of power and conflict that this decision to change entails. Hemabharathy draws inspiration from these to create her piece Uruvam, where she has delved into the ideas of form and transformation.

collaboration with choreographer Kenneth Flak and light designer Thomas Dotzler

<a href="http://www.kennethflak.com/">Kenneth Flak</a> / <a href="http://www.korzo.nl/do.php?a=show_visitor_korzo_productie&p=1225&m=-1">produced by Korzo Theater, The Hague</a>

<strong>Kenneth Flak</strong>
The Norwegian dancer and choreographer Kenneth Flak has for a number of years been active as a dancer and choreographer in the Netherlands and Norway. As a dancer, he appeared in various productions by André Gingras. In 2007 he was awarded the prestigious Bessie Award for his achievement in Gingras' solo CYP17. As a choreographer he created, amongst others, Unison, God Studies and Of Gods and Driftwood. The latter was included in the 2010 Blind Date tour.

<strong>The Chinese Room</strong>
His latest performance, The Chinese Room will premiere in the countdown dance weekend.

PROJET O
17.04.10 - 21.04.10

LUXEMBOURGEOIS - TROIS C-L
